Update I
03/December/2006

Q: My wife, who is the interface with the world of news in this family, tells me that they announced on TV that they will close the bank accounts of whoever doesn't have an approved overdraft by Jan. 1. Is that so? I would go to the High Court on that.

A: That sounds to me like an exaggeration, but I no longer watch the TV.

What they presumably mean to say is that they will bounce anything that puts you in overdraft if you have no revolving credit arrangement, and that is indeed the legal position from January 1, Heaven help us. Unless they chicken out of activating the legislation for what I estimate would be the fifth time, which would be a reasonable thing to do since the robber banks have eliminated all positive aspects of it, acting as a cartel of the worst kind. In fact if I were Dr Fischer I would quite likely condition my continued holding of the position of Governor of the Bank of Israel on compelling them to roll back what they have done and give them no more than another six months to do so, during which time the activation would be delayed for one final time or the law would be simply canceled, with heavy sanctions on the banks as a result.

If you are concerned (and frankly concerned is a pretty apt description of how one should be about pretty well every aspect of running one's life in this part of the Levant) I suggest you send a fax (with cc by registered mail) to your bank asking them to confirm in writing that as long as you never overdraw there is no reason to take any action. If they don't reply I would say you should win your case. But that would require me to acquire faith in our wunnerful (not) judges. And, as the best anti Semites say, one of my best friends is a judge.

Today I turned down the offer of a new client because it was conditioned on recommending them to a bank I trusted and could work with on their behalf. None of my best friends is a bank. Did I ever tell you about the time I really thought I'd found one? One morning I woke up to find him in jail for dipping into his customers' accounts unfortunately he couldn't take any of my overdraft).
